The Countdown to Study Week

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to study week as much as I am, despite the fact that my classes keep getting cancelled by different profs for various reasons?

This came from here. I love the notebook doodles.

No classes today... but there is still work to be done. Starting... now.

I can't help it... have you heard this song before?

Shuffle never fails to be the best invention ever.

There I was, all making dinner (sweet chili tilapia and vegetable stirfry with brown basmati rice) whilst sipping a tasty brew (see previous post) and groovin' out to some tunes when that unmistakeable and yet oft forgotten (in my case) riff began to play.

We've all been there, yes? If this song came on during a heated match of tonsil hockey, I believe I would be totally justified in doing exactly what Art Brut are talking about. Am I right?!

Sweet Summer Savouring.

Recently, this was brought to my attention:

It's the 2011 Canada Day Innis & Gunn limited edition cask. And it's pretty effing special.

This is the third year that Innis & Gunn has crafted a special Canadian edition, each year with a different recipe. I've only just found out about it, and I'm in love. The first sip was so incredibly enjoyable, so smooth and sweet and delicious that my enjoyment quickly gave way to the bummery realization that finishing it would mean it would eventually be over, no matter how long I savoured it. I didn't want it to be over.

At 8.3% alcohol, drinking one is like drinking two normal beers, but you wouldn't know it from the taste!

I'm by no means a beer-tasting expert. No, really! Okay, I do consider myself a wee bit of a connoisseur, in that I prefer to savour premium brews and try new things rather than choke down the low-rent stuff.

While I don't subscribe to any beer-connoisseur snobbery or claim to know anything about the discipline specifically, I will tell you that this mindblowing tipple tastes exactly the way it is described on the box:

"Creamy with toffee and oak complimented by a vibrant, spicy Fuggles hop bitterness. Warms and mellows on the palate revealing a delicious malty character with hints of vanilla".

Yes, it comes in a box (clear-bottled beers can go skunky before their expiry date, hence the box: if you decide not to drink it right away, it will be protected from damaging light). It's also a little on the expensive side. But it's so worth it. It's not available at the beer store, only at the LCBO in Ontario (I don't know where it is sold in the other provinces, but I'm sure it must be). If you enjoy a sweet, creamy, caramelly, beery treat, it's worth going out of your way to get it.

Best beer I've ever had.

I Hate That I Like This Song: Version 1.0

Okay, I'm doing it. I am officially relinquishing denial.

I like this song. I've liked it for months. I definitely hate the music video (boring and self-indulgent, much?) but... I finally have to admit it. Despite the fact that I've been trying really hard to hate it, this song gets me groovin' every single time. Harumph.

Stupid song with stupid lyrics by stupid goofs with stupidly amazing groove. Grrrrr....doot doot doo doo doot, doot doo doo doot, doot doo doo doot...

Pure. Unadulterated. Happiness.

I was just browsing through my old blog and I rediscovered this photo:

Seeing it again, I got the exact same tingles of happiness as I did the first time I saw it! I think this may be my all time favourite photo taken by anyone of anything in the entire universe.

Everything in Moderation.

They say you can tell a lot about a person by the stuff she sticks on her refrigerator door.

I try. I really, really try! It's actually what's inside the fridge that counts, right?! Okay, there's beer in there. But there's also vegetables, I swear!

Rock 'n' Roll Nerd!

Last night I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Tim Minchin live at the Wintergarden Theatre in downtown Toronto. I'm going to try not to gush, but... he was just brilliant! I knew it would be great, but he totally exceeded my expectations. The man really is a fantastically talented musician and comedic genius. And he just has this way about him that is so endearing. Anyone who can pull off "scathingly ironic yet heart-stoppingly adorable" ranks extremely high in my Book of People who are Awesome.

He opened with my favourite Tim song...

(this above clip is from his "So Live" DVD).
To prove I was really there, here is a terribly blurred out photo of him performing that I took sneakily and quickly because photography was against the rules, of course...

To be fair, I didn't have my real camera with me, just my old little point-and-shoot that I carry around for just-in-case moments.

Anyway, like I said... amazing show! He performed a perfect mix of new material and old favourites. I laughed from start to finish and left the theatre with a perma-smile plastered on my face.

Speaking of the theatre, the Wintergarden is so pretty! This was my first time there, and I really just want to go back with my Nikon D90 and spend the day taking pictures in there. I have never seen such a spectacularly lovely and cool theatre before! My photos (again, taken on my shitcam) don't do it justice.

I couldn't find a suitable website to link to... so if you're curious and want to see more, just google Elgin & Wintergarden Theatre.

How to Impress Red Green.

This is rad. It's a duct tape chair. A chair that has been "reupholstered" with duct tape. Whoa.

I found it at Poppytalk's blog... go here to see how it came to be!
