What does it mean?

Lately I am obsessed with:

Avocados, green onions, maple syrup, sweet potatoes, black olives, candied ginger and dried cranberries. As in, I want to eat them all in the same bowl for every meal.

And I don't even LIKE onions, so the green onions thing is pretty weird.

I'm wondering if there is something in all of these things that I'm currently deficient in, hence my sudden, overwhelming need to ingest them all so voraciously.

yeah... they're all AWESOME. I think I'm suffering from an AWESOMENESS deficiency. In a way, that actually kind of makes sense...

Welcome, Smarts :)

It's good to see you! I hope this photo makes you feel as joyful as it does for me.

Keep It Thimble Thtupid!

Today I discovered that the Second Cup at my work has thimble cookies.

image source... and a recipe too!

I haven't had thimble cookies since I can't remember when. So obviously, I had to have one. And it was divine! It was the best part of my day. The worst part was when a 99-year-old hospital volunteer pitched a dementia-fuelled tantrum at me about brochures. Let's focus on the cookie, shall we? ahhhh, that's better :)

So Wonderfully Pretty...

...is this photo.

I've had it in my flickr favourites for many months... but when I was perusing them today I was astonished by its beauty once again.

But then... I love just about EVERYTHING The Gentleman Amateur does.

Spring is... Springing!

Although I am quite certain that we will have at least one more blast of winter before spring finally arrives, I do feel that springy shift in the air.

It seemed like an appropriate time to put away the winter wreath on the front door, and put together a new wreath to usher spring in!

And I'm really glad I didn't give in to my typical need to over-decorate it by covering the entire thing in flowers and ribbons. Here's to turning over a new, minimalist leaf!

Talk Nerdy To Me *Swoon!*

There is nothing wrong with having a science nerd crush. Nothing at all.

Especially when it's on Brian Cox.

He's speaking math and I don't understand, but I don't care.

haha. YES.

Particle Physics IS sexy. I hope you now agree.

Is it St. Patrick's Day Yet?

I found this brilliant little recipe in my Chatelaine the other day...

The Black and Black

Pour 1/4 cup of blackcurrant concentrate (such as Ribena) into a pint glass.
Add 440 mL can chilled Guinness.

This Guinness cocktail looks so yummy! I mean, Guinness is just about the best thing on the planet, and on one hand you can't really improve upon perfection... but I think this might be close! I might not be able to wait until the 17th :)

***I originally found this in my March 2011 Chatelaine magazine, but you can view it here or visit Chatelaine online***

I am SO doing this!

I cannot even tell you how rapidly my Ukrainian heart began beating when I saw this on One Pretty Thing's roundup from the weekend.

Go to Suzy's Artsy-Craftsy Sitcom for the tutorial. Brilliant, I tell you! And with Easter coming up, making real homemade pysanky would be the perfect way to honour my heritage.

I like this...

...photo. I like the colours, and how soft it looks. I like the blogger who posted the photo. She seems to always be in the same headspace as me. I like everything she likes.

Yes, I'm back with a new blog. And this time, I really want to make this one stick. So I'm paring my blogging style and goals down to the basics by keeping it as honest, authentic and unpretentious as possible. This is an opportunity for me to explore and celebrate who I really am -- not hide behind some made-up persona in an effort to seem somehow better than I am.
